Hey-lo!
I know I know I know- I’m posting a crochet pattern for shamrocks 4 FREAKING DAYS before St. Patrick’s Day.
I’m sorry. I really am. But life has been crazy-hectic lately. Among many other things, we’ve been trapping stray cats that have invaded my parent’s property (they live around the corner from us) and bringing them to the vet to get spayed so they don’t make more stray cats. We are currently fostering one until she has recuperated and is ready for adoption. But the way it’s going, it’s probably going to be a failed fostering, because we’ll probably end up keeping her, which will bring our cat total up to 9. One more cat and we’re in the double digits! Whoo Hoo! :/
Anyhoos, here’s my latest pattern that I at least got done a few days before St. Patty’s Day, so at least you have a little time to make them before the big day. On the bright side, they are small and therefore very fast to make.
I’ve included step-by-step pictures below the pattern.
Materials:
Size I (5.50mm) crochet hook
Scissors
Tapestry or yarn needle
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn or any 10-ply worsted weight yarn
Abbreviations:
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
trc = treble crochet st(s) = stitch(es)
Stem:
ch 5; join with sl st to form a loop.
ch 11 out from loop; turn.
sl st 1 in each chain st back towards loop.
sl st 1 into bottom of loop.
Round 1:
dc 8 in loop (no foundation chain), join with sl st where the stem meets the round, turn.
Round 2:
First Leaf:
ch 2, 3 trc, 1 sc under first stitch.
1 sc, 3 trc, 1 dc under next stitch.
sl st under next stitch.
Second Leaf:
ch 2, 3 trc, 1 sc in under next stitch.
1 sc, 3 trc, 1 dc in under next stitch.
sl st under next stitch.
Third Leaf:
ch 2, 3 trc, 1 sc under next stitch.
1 sc, 3 trc, 1 dc under next stitch.
Join with sl st where the stem meets the round.
Cut yarn, tie off and weave in ends.
Here’s the step-by-step breakdown. The pictures show the pattern being worked from left to right because I am left handed, so if the pictures look jacked up to you, that’s probably why. This pattern is symmetrical, so it can be worked either left to right or right to left and achieve the same results.
ch 5; join with sl st to form a loop.
ch 11 out from loop; turn.
sl st 1 in each chain st back towards loop. sl st 1 into bottom of loop.
First Leaf: ch 2, 3 trc, 1 sc under first stitch. 1 sc, 3 trc, 1 dc under next stitch. sl st under next stitch.
Second and third leaf finished.
Alrighty! Let me know what you think and if you have any questions!
Have a safe and happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Michelle
I'd love to hear what you think!
