Time for another crochet project! I’m really trying keep this blog from being a “one horse wonder” (and that horse being crochet) but it’s really hard for me when I love it so much! I hope that though you obviously love crochet too (or you wouldn’t be reading this right now) that you will check out some of my other projects and crafts while you’re here. I pretty much love anything done in some flavor of country, but I’ve really been keen on the farmhouse style as of late. So keen on it that I plan to redecorate our come in farmhouse style over the next few months. And of course I’ll post all my progress here, so if you’re into the farmhouse look, stay tuned! 🙂
I came up with this project because though I’ve seen a lot of crochet patterns for round pumpkins that are stuffed, I haven’t seen too many that are flat that could be used for appliques and such.
Pumpkin Free Crochet Pattern
Finished size: approximately 2 1/2″ high with stem and 2 3/4″ wide at the widest point. Size may vary a bit because of gauge, yarn used, etc.
Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn where to buy
Size US K/10.5 6.5mm
Scissors
Yarn needle

sl st = slip stitch | sp(s) = space(s) |
st(s) = stitch(es) | tog = together |
yo = yarn over | trc = triple crochet |
Directions:
Pumpkin:
Ch 4; join with sl st to form a loop. (You can use a magic circle in lieu of this if you like.)
Round 1: ch 3; dc 13 in loop, join round with sl st.
Round 2: ch 1; l sc in same st; 2 dc in next st; 2 trc in next st; 3 trc in next st; 3 trc in next st; 2 trc in next st; 2 dc in next s; sl st in next s; 2 dc in next st; 2 trc in next st; 3 trc in next st; 3 trc in next st; 2 trc in next st; 2 dc in next s; join round with sl st.
Stem:
Ch 4; turn and sc in next st; hdc in next st; sl st in next st. Cut yarn and pull through loop to fasten off.
Place on top of the pumpkin and position as you like. Use a yarn needle to pull yarn ends through to the wrong side of the pumpkin. Tie off and weave in ends.
Leaf:
Ch 4; turn and 1 sc in each s back down the chain (3 sc total). Cut yarn and pull through loop to fasten off.
Place on top of the pumpkin and position as you like. Use a yarn needle to pull yarn ends through to the wrong side of the pumpkin. Tie off and weave in ends.
Below are step by step pictures to help if you get stuck. I am a left-handed crocheter, so if the pictures look jacked up to you, that’s probably why. These directions will work whether you are left or right-handed.
Join with a slip stitch to form a loop.
…turn and sc in next st; hdc in next st; sl st in next st.
