Hey there! π
Can you stand another dollar store craft from me? π I was really impressed with the quality of these dollar store bottles. They look like they could have come from a regular retail store. They’re made out of heavy glass, and even come with a cork!
This will be my last Halloween craft for the season. Promise! π And I usually don’t post anything on the weekends, but I wanted to get this finished and posted ASAP so if you want to try it for yourself, you’d have at least a little time before Halloween! π
I’ve been looking for an excuse to try out the Crackle Medium from FolkArt Home DΓ©cor. I heard a lot of great things about it, and I wasn’t let down! This stuff is excellent for producing an authentic vintage crackle effect with chalk paint.

Directions:
Paint bottles with a coat of Rich Black chalk paint and allow to dry thoroughly. Then paint on a coat of Crackle Medium and allow to dry thoroughly.
Once the Crackle Medium is completely dry, paint on a light coat of White Adirondack chalk paint with a soft brush being careful not to over stroke. Once the paint is applied, it softens the Crackle Medium underneath. If you touch the painted areas after a few seconds, it will pull at the Crackle Medium underneath and the paint will slide off. This will also happen if you paint on too thick a layer, especially on the smooth parts of the bottle like what happened below.
I put too much paint on the bottle on the left, and you can see the results. Fortunately I was able to wash the paint off pretty easily with soap and water since the paint was still wet and then repaint it.
I really like how they turned out! I have them on my entryway sideboard along with the rest of my Halloween decorations. The faux silk flowers I put in the bottles are from the dollar store too. π

Wow those are very cool. I like how you have the black peaking out from under the cracked white. A very appropriate Halloween effect if there ever was one. Thanks for the easy tutorial!

I was just wondering the other if crackle paint would work on glass bottles and what it would look like. Well I like it, looks pretty neat. I will have to give it a try for myself. Thanks for sharing!

I love the way crackle finish looks. I’ve only tried it once using white glue. I wonder if the crackle medium is easier.Anyway, your bottles look fantastic especially with the black flowers.
Michelle says
Hi Darlene! I’m glad you like how these turned out! π I do think the crackle medium is easier in the sense that you can let it dry completely before you paint over it. With the glue, you have to wait until the glue is tacky, but not totally dry before you paint over it or else it won’t crackle. Depending on the project, it takes different amounts of time for the glue to get tacky, so you have to keep testing it or risk it drying before you can paint over it.

I think these bottles would be pretty in silver and white for a Christmas tablescape, so I pinned the post for inspiration. Thank you for sharing your idea!
