Hey Friends! Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? I was hoping to get this Valentine’s Day wreath project posted sooner, but at least it’s not the day before Valentine’s Day like I did with my Valentine’s Day Clothes Hanger Mobile Tutorial! 🙂 I seem to have a thing with using clothes hangers for my Valentine’s Day projects, which makes me wonder if there is some kind of subconscious connection? If you think you see one, drop me a line and let me know! 🙂
This is a really fast and easy project and is a great way to make use of old wire hangers! And I just found the idea of hanging old keys in the middle as the “keys to my heart” really charming <3
What you’ll need:
- Wire hanger
- Approximately 10 yards of jute twine
- Ribbon in Valentine’s Day colors
- Old keys
Directions:
First thing you need to do is to bend the wire hanger into the shape of a heart. The picture above shows where you want to bend the hanger to make it into a shape of a heart. It’s not as hard as you might think! I was able to do it just using my hands with a little effort. I think the key here is to use a wire hanger where the wire isn’t too thick or stiff.
First, make a bend in the middle of the bottom wire to make the bottom of the heart.
Then, bend the top wire in half-circle shapes between the hook and where the hanger bends around to the bottom wire on the hanger.
Tie the jute twine where the wire splits apart below the hook start wrapping the twine around the hanger, stopping every now and again and secure the twine to the hanger using a drop of hot glue to keep the twine from unraveling.
Keep wrapping the twine around the wire hanger until you get back you started, then continue wrapping the twine up over the hook. When you reach the end of the hook, secure the end with a drop of hot glue and cut off the extra twine.
Arrange and lay out the keys to position them how you want them to hang. Loop the ribbon in the key loops and tie under the hook. Trim off any excess ribbon and secure to the top of the hanger with a drop of hot glue.
Hang up your wreath and enjoy! I hung this wreath on my front door after I was done taking pictures of it for this post, and the keys make the a beautiful sound when they clink together whenever the door is opened. After this happened, I realized this wreath would make a great wind chime too! 🙂
I hope you’ve enjoyed this project! Let me know what you think in the comments section below!
Happy Valentine’s Day! <3
