Hey guys! 🙂
Here’s a really simple and cost-effective project using a basket, plastic eggs, ribbon, twine, and Spanish moss from the dollar store!
This whole project (not including the spray paint, which I’m taking for granted you already have on hand) would have cost me $4-$5 if I had bought everything from the dollar store. It actually only cost me $3 because the only things I had to buy was the basket, plastic eggs, and Spanish moss; I already had the ribbon and twine on hand.
What you need for this project:
- wicker basket
- plastic eggs
- Spanish moss
- ribbon
- twine
- matte spray paint ( I used Rust-oleum Universal paint and primer in one in Castle Rock, French Cream, and Iced Gray, and Valspar Premium paint and primer in one in White) where to buy
I make a small commission at no additional cost to you from purchases made through links on this page. Your purchases through links on this page makes it possible for me to keep blogging and bringing you all the great content you see here on The Painted Hinge! 🙂
Instructions:
Pull the plastic eggs apart and spray paint two coats allowing for at least 2 hours of dry time between coats.
Spray paint the bottom of the basket with two coats, allowing at least 2 hours dry time between each coat. Flip basket over and repeat. The wicker tends to absorb the paint, so you will need to give the basket at least two coats. If I was to do this project again, I would have bought a lighter colored basket, or a color that was easier to cover with white (like yellow).
Once the basket is completely dry, line the bottom with Spanish moss. Put the plastic eggs back together and put them in the basket. Tie ribbon and twine in a bow on top of the plastic handle.
Use your new Easter egg basket as a table centerpiece or display as part of an Easter vignette. I have mine on top of my entryway sideboard along with some rabbits I scored from Michael’s at 60% off. Sometimes waiting until the last minute to buy stuff actually pays off! 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this dollar store Easter egg basket makeover! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them in the comments section below!
