Hey Friends! 🙂
My DIY Painted Wood Signs – Without Using Stencils! post was a big hit! So much so that I’ve gotten a ton of requests to make more tracable letter printables for other signs, the most popular being letters for a “Farmhouse” sign.
I actually made the farmhouse sign pictured a few months back to test out how well the tracable letters actually worked. Although they are a little more time consuming to use compared to stencils, I think the cost savings more than makes up for it! These aren’t your best bet if you are making signs to sell, but for a one-shot deal to make a sign for your home, they’re perfect! 🙂
The links below are for PDF files of tracable letters in two different sizes – 600pt (which is what I used for the sign above) and 700pt. Both are in Baskerville Old Face font. To download the files, click on the link of the font size desired to open the PDF file, and then save the file to your computer. Please visit my post DIY Painted Wood Signs – Without Using Stencils! for complete instructions on how to use these letters to make your own signs!

Would you happen to have these that say WELCOME?
Hi Jennifer! I can do you one better – how about the entire alphabet? 🙂 http://www.thepaintedhinge.com/2017/03/27/free-printable-traceable-letters-making-farmhouse-style-signs/
Any chance I could talk you into doing the entire alphabet? Thanks
Maybe 🙂
Seriously, I was already planning to do this… I should have the post up in the next week or two. Thanks! 🙂
Thank you so much! I have a Lakehouse not a farmhouse.
Thanks Christine! 🙂 I will be posting all the alphabet letters next week so stay tuned! 🙂
What is the difference between the 600pt and 700pt files? I want to use with my Silouhette Cameo to cut out vinyl. Thanks for sharing this great post!
Hi Denise! The 600pt and 700pt are the sizes of the font in the files. I’m glad you enjoyed this post! 🙂
Would you be able to make the same font in size 500 and 400 as these are a bit to large 🙁
Going to surprise my husband and make a sign for him
Hi Amy! I do want to make these in different sizes eventually, but right now I am super busy and I’m afraid it won’t be anytime soon. However, you can use this tutorial and make your own! 🙂 >>> http://www.thepaintedhinge.com/2017/03/04/diy-painted-wood-signs-without-using-stencils/
I LOVE this project!! How did you get the white look on the black letters to give it that aged look? Does that happen when you distress it? I’ve never used chalk paint before. Thank you!!
Hi Marlene! I’m happy you like the project! 🙂 And yes, distressing the letters is what gives them the aged look.
Love the farmhouse sign I am making one for my bedroom I have a question on printing the letters I had a issue with the letter M it cut off the letter I was using the 700pt when I went back to look at the letter it is cut off on the website is there a fix for that you can share.
Thank You
Hi Karen! Unfortunately, the 700pt letter M will not fit all the way on the page either horizontally or vertically. All you have to do to fix this is first trace the M as it is, then flip it over and match up the edges from the side that is not cut off to the side that is and trace the rest. Hope that helps!
Do you mind if i ask what size board you used for your sign? I love it!
Hi Brandy! It is 6 feet long by 7 1/3 inches tall. Thanks! 🙂
Hi there! This sign is so cute! Just a quick question, so this Farmhouse sign pictured is on a 6 ft. by 7 1/3 in. board, and is the 700 point font size used for this too?
Thanks!!
Thanks so much Kendra! 🙂 I used the 600pt font for my farmhouse sign.
so I do not have computer access I really really really would be more than grateful so appreciative even if the answer to this is no but is this the last day that we can get these free stenciling because that’s where I’m stuck
Hi Melanie! These stencils will always be available as long as this blog exsists, so no worries! 🙂
Hi, thank you for posting this. I have 5″ letter stencils which are perfect for my 1x6x48″ board but I don’t know how to get the spacing correct between the letters. There are no registration marks, so it would be much like printing these out. How do I space them correctly so they don’t look like an amateur did it? Any tips would be helpful!!
Hi Jean! The way I do it is to lay them all out on the board until I have them roughly the way I want them, then I measure in between the letters and between the first and last letter and it’s corresponding edge and move them around until they are an even distance from each other. If you want more space between the edges and the first/last letter then what’s between each letter, that’s fine. It isn’t an exact science but it works for me. I hope this helps! 🙂
I absolutely love this sign! Thank you for giving out the templates! How far apart did you space out the letters? I have the board and the 600pt font printed out but I just want to make sure the letters are spaced evenly.
Hi Megan! I spaced them out about 1 1/2 inches apart (the letters themselves; not the paper they’re printed on). I hope that helps! 🙂
What size wood did you choose and paint/stain as well. I would like to make the same exact one you made. I’m new to diy projects like this. I just bought a house and this would look perfect in my kitchen above my sink!
Hi Chrisy! The size of the sign I used here is 6 feet long by 7 1/3 inches tall. The supplies and directions are here: http://www.thepaintedhinge.com/2017/03/04/diy-painted-wood-signs-without-using-stencils/
Thanks bunches!
You’re welcome Carole! 🙂
Is the white chalk paint you used necessary for all paintings?
Hi Renata! No – you can use regular paint to make these signs. The only thing is that regular paint doesn’t distress as well as chalk paint, but if you don’t want to distress the sign you don’t have to worry about that. I hope this helps! 🙂
This is one of the best DIY sites I have found. Thank you so much for sharing your lettering. I love that you had the heart to do this – you must be fabulous!
Awe thank you so much Lisa! I’m happy you are enjoying my blog! 🙂
Thank you for the letters! I am doing believe on a porch sign and this will help so much!
I’m attempting my very first welcome sign for my porch. I’ve downloaded your Baskerville 600 font. The letters will be vertical on the board. The W looks wider than the other letters. Is it me or is this the way to go? Your site has given me courage into the unknown. Thanks
Michelle,
Thanks for leaving this project up on your website for a few years. I am now making a sign and using your font, so I’ve copied it on my cardstock and will trace them and paint my letters on wood. I appreciate your farsightedness in leaving the project up. Some bloggers remove them later and I can’t find the info. Your home looks lovely, and you certainly have the farmhouse charm!
This is so neat! What font is this by the way!?
Thank Sara! It is Baskerville Old Face font.
You’re welcome and thank you!
Wonder where can I get all A to Z ?
Hi TracyAnn! The complete alphabet is under the Printables category on my blog.
