Usually around this time of year Iām sick of summer and Iām ready for fall. Donāt get me wrong ā I love summer. But by this time of year, Iām sick of the over 100 degree days, no rain in sight, and so much dust in the air that it makes dusting an exercise in futility. Iām not quite ready to go full-on fall with my decorating, but I like to hint that itās just around the corner.
This part of our house is right off our driveway. I like to decorate this area since itās the first part of the house theyāll see when they drive up.
See the welcome sign in the background? To the right of it is our front door.
If you ever go flower shopping at the nurseries this time of year, youāll notice that most of the flowers they have in stock are already fall colors. Iāll mix them in with the summer decor I have out already, but I donāt add anything that definitely screams fall (like pumpkins, gourds, ornamental corn, or Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes).
I went with a chicken theme for this part of our porch. We have chickens, but have downsized our flock since we first started out. Iām happy I had the foresight (for once) to keep all the chicken feeders, because they sure make sweet planters for flowers.
Ā
Hereās our front door. I went with a gardening theme here.
If youāre a regular reader of mine, Iām sure youāll see things here that Iāve used in other posts. I like to move stuff around and find new āhomesā for them.
I did add a couple of things that are fall colors, but I donāt get too crazy with it yet. But when August 1st rolls around, my summer decor is officially over for the year.
I couldnāt resist sharing this pic of my āhelpersā who joined me when I was shooting the promo pics for the hop. Thatās Tom on the left and Chance on the right.
Okay, thatās it for me! š Next up is the gorgeous gardens at White Arrows Home. You wonāt believe how pretty plates can be in a garden until you see what she did with hers!
Hereās the entire hop lineup:
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the Vintage Gardens Blog Hop!
Michelle, I love your tips for transitioning to fall! Since we often have summer temperatures in Texas through October, and typical fall plants arenāt always available, I often use some of the same colors you used. As always, everything looks just lovely on your porch! Happy to be joining the tour with you! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Cecilia, Laura, Cindy, and I all need to form a support group! We are all Texans. ā„
Thanks so much Cecilia! š We can have summer temps through October too so I feel your pain. Sometimes it feels like we go from summer straight into winter! :/ Happy to be hopping with you today!
Michelle, where do you live? We are in Texas. I am so tired of the heat but summer is here for the long haul. We wonāt see any signs of fall until late September. So girl, Iāll be following along with your fall transition and living vicariously while I sweat it out!
Having said that, the fall hues youāve incorporated on your big farmhouse porch look great! Your sweet little kitties are ready to greet visitors who come to call. š
Hey Stacey! š I live in the farming valley in Northern California, about an hour south of Sacramento. We can have hot temps well into October, but when August 1st rolls around, Iām in Fall decor mode! š I get excited about Fall like a lot of people get excited about Christmas and want it to come as soon as possible! š So happy to be hopping with you today!
Love the chicken and garden themes Michelle! Next week, after Pioneer Day here in UT I will transition my front porch to a garden theme as well. Like you Iāll add subtle touches of fall. Usually a sunflower or two. I love chicken feeders for planters as well. I have a couple of long ones planted. One with portulaca and the other with ivy geraniums.
hugs,
Jann
Thanks so much Jann! I hope you will be sharing your garden themed porch on your blog so I can check it out! š Happy to be hopping with you today!
Oh, Michelle, I have front porch envy. I love the vignette you created on your steps. The collection of vintage sprinklers makes my heart happy.
Thanks so much Laura! I just love vintage sprinklers! š Happy to be hopping with you today!
Hi Michelle! You have some fantastic treasures on your porch. I love it! So happy to be in the hop with you. Gives me hope. š
Thanks so much Cindy! Happy to be hopping today with you too! š
I love your front porch! Your flowers and vintage pieces are beautiful! The colors you chose are perfect for a transitional display! It has been so much fun being on this tour with you! Enjoy your week!!!
Thanks so much Shannon! š Itās been so much fun hopping with you too! š Have a wonderful week!
Your front porch is so beautiful!! The flowers are lovely and I love your Summer to Fall transition. Glad to know I am not the only one thinking of Fall already!!
Thank you Angelina! š I canāt wait for fall like some people canāt wait for Christmas! š
Michelle, I am loving all your vintage decor. As dealer of vintage and antiques, I think I can safely say weāve sold all the items I spy on your porch in our booths ā stepladders, pulley weights, flower frogs, sprinklers, chicken feeders, etc. It all looks so well coordinated in your styling. Itās usually later in August when thoughts of fall stir in me, but youāre doing a great job of making subtle changes with color.
Itās been a joy visiting you!
Thanks so much Rita! Itās so neat that youāve sold so many wonderful vintage finds ā Iād be a terrible antique dealer because Iād never want to let any of it go! š Happy to be on the hop with you today!
By this time of the summer, Iām craving sunflowers too, Michelle! Love your collection of sprinklers and your ladder displays. So fun to be hopping with you again!
Thanks so much Lora! š So fun to be hopping with you too!
Michelle, I have to slow my scroll on your photos to take in all the goodness! I love that you did an egg theme on your side porch! That pillow just pulls it all together! And your garden theme in the front is wonderfuL! Beautiful tour!!
Thanks so much Kristin! The tour of your parentās yard was gorgeous too! š
Love how you decorated both porches with so many precious vintage pieces!! Beautiful!I planted orange, yellow and red flowers on our front porch in pots and around it so it would transition much easier into Fall and I am so with youā¦.I am very much ready for Fall which is my favorite time of the year!!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thanks so much Debbie! š
Michelle you have the perfect porch for decorating with your vintage farmhouse treasures. I love your sunflowers and chickens theme, so perfect for (almost) August and early transitioning to fall. The little chicken egg holder with wooden eggs is so cute! The purple petunias add a pretty pop of color too! I am so glad you joined us for the vintage gardens hop!
Thank you so much Amber! š Iām happy I was able to be part of the tour. Have a great rest of your weekend!
I would love to have your beautiful porch. My hubs made plans to add one to our house, but it hasnāt happened yet. Seeing all your chicken accents make me regret all the things we disposed of when we cleaned out my fathers farm buildings. I grew up on a farm. Many different animals-it was great. I too am ready for fall. O ur temps arenāt quite as high as yours, but 90+ is to high for me.
Thanks so much Claudia! š I had the same thing happen when we cleaned out my grandfatherās old barn around 10 years ago ā so many things that we threw out that Iād just love to have now! Now I know why he kept everything! š
