If you’re coming over from eyeballing Mrs. Olson’s beautiful gardens at Have A Daily Cup Of Mrs. Olson, welcome!
Usually around this time of year I’m sick of summer and I’m ready for fall. Don’t get me wrong – I love summer. But by this time of year, I’m sick of the over 100 degree days, no rain in sight, and so much dust in the air that it makes dusting an exercise in futility. I’m not quite ready to go full-on fall with my decorating, but I like to hint that it’s just around the corner.
This part of our house is right off our driveway. I like to decorate this area since it’s the first part of the house they’ll see when they drive up.
See the welcome sign in the background? To the right of it is our front door.
If you ever go flower shopping at the nurseries this time of year, you’ll notice that most of the flowers they have in stock are already fall colors. I’ll mix them in with the summer decor I have out already, but I don’t add anything that definitely screams fall (like pumpkins, gourds, ornamental corn, or Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes).
I went with a chicken theme for this part of our porch. We have chickens, but have downsized our flock since we first started out. I’m happy I had the foresight (for once) to keep all the chicken feeders, because they sure make sweet planters for flowers.
Here’s our front door. I went with a gardening theme here.
If you’re a regular reader of mine, I’m sure you’ll see things here that I’ve used in other posts. I like to move stuff around and find new “homes” for them.
I did add a couple of things that are fall colors, but I don’t get too crazy with it yet. But when August 1st rolls around, my summer decor is officially over for the year.
I couldn’t resist sharing this pic of my “helpers” who joined me when I was shooting the promo pics for the hop. That’s Tom on the left and Chance on the right.
Okay, that’s it for me! ๐ Next up is the gorgeous gardens at White Arrows Home. You won’t believe how pretty plates can be in a garden until you see what she did with hers!
Here’s the entire hop lineup:
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the Vintage Gardens Blog Hop!

Michelle, I love your tips for transitioning to fall! Since we often have summer temperatures in Texas through October, and typical fall plants aren’t always available, I often use some of the same colors you used. As always, everything looks just lovely on your porch! Happy to be joining the tour with you! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Stacey @ Poofing the Pillows says
Cecilia, Laura, Cindy, and I all need to form a support group! We are all Texans. โฅ
Michelle says
Thanks so much Cecilia! ๐ We can have summer temps through October too so I feel your pain. Sometimes it feels like we go from summer straight into winter! :/ Happy to be hopping with you today!
Stacey @ Poofing the Pillows says
Michelle, where do you live? We are in Texas. I am so tired of the heat but summer is here for the long haul. We won’t see any signs of fall until late September. So girl, I’ll be following along with your fall transition and living vicariously while I sweat it out!
Having said that, the fall hues you’ve incorporated on your big farmhouse porch look great! Your sweet little kitties are ready to greet visitors who come to call. ๐
Michelle says
Hey Stacey! ๐ I live in the farming valley in Northern California, about an hour south of Sacramento. We can have hot temps well into October, but when August 1st rolls around, I’m in Fall decor mode! ๐ I get excited about Fall like a lot of people get excited about Christmas and want it to come as soon as possible! ๐ So happy to be hopping with you today!
Jann Olson says
Love the chicken and garden themes Michelle! Next week, after Pioneer Day here in UT I will transition my front porch to a garden theme as well. Like you I’ll add subtle touches of fall. Usually a sunflower or two. I love chicken feeders for planters as well. I have a couple of long ones planted. One with portulaca and the other with ivy geraniums.
hugs,
Jann
Michelle says
Thanks so much Jann! I hope you will be sharing your garden themed porch on your blog so I can check it out! ๐ Happy to be hopping with you today!

Oh, Michelle, I have front porch envy. I love the vignette you created on your steps. The collection of vintage sprinklers makes my heart happy.

Your front porch is so beautiful!! The flowers are lovely and I love your Summer to Fall transition. Glad to know I am not the only one thinking of Fall already!!
Michelle says
Thank you Angelina! ๐ I can’t wait for fall like some people can’t wait for Christmas! ๐

Michelle, I am loving all your vintage decor. As dealer of vintage and antiques, I think I can safely say we’ve sold all the items I spy on your porch in our booths – stepladders, pulley weights, flower frogs, sprinklers, chicken feeders, etc. It all looks so well coordinated in your styling. It’s usually later in August when thoughts of fall stir in me, but you’re doing a great job of making subtle changes with color.
It’s been a joy visiting you!
Michelle says
Thanks so much Rita! It’s so neat that you’ve sold so many wonderful vintage finds – I’d be a terrible antique dealer because I’d never want to let any of it go! ๐ Happy to be on the hop with you today!
Lora says
By this time of the summer, I’m craving sunflowers too, Michelle! Love your collection of sprinklers and your ladder displays. So fun to be hopping with you again!
Michelle says
Thanks so much Lora! ๐ So fun to be hopping with you too!

Michelle, I have to slow my scroll on your photos to take in all the goodness! I love that you did an egg theme on your side porch! That pillow just pulls it all together! And your garden theme in the front is wonderfuL! Beautiful tour!!
Michelle says
Thanks so much Kristin! The tour of your parent’s yard was gorgeous too! ๐
Debbie-Dabble says
Love how you decorated both porches with so many precious vintage pieces!! Beautiful!I planted orange, yellow and red flowers on our front porch in pots and around it so it would transition much easier into Fall and I am so with you….I am very much ready for Fall which is my favorite time of the year!!!
Hugs,
Debbie

Thanks so much Debbie! ๐

Michelle you have the perfect porch for decorating with your vintage farmhouse treasures. I love your sunflowers and chickens theme, so perfect for (almost) August and early transitioning to fall. The little chicken egg holder with wooden eggs is so cute! The purple petunias add a pretty pop of color too! I am so glad you joined us for the vintage gardens hop!
Michelle says
Thank you so much Amber! ๐ I’m happy I was able to be part of the tour. Have a great rest of your weekend!
Claudia says
I would love to have your beautiful porch. My hubs made plans to add one to our house, but it hasnโt happened yet. Seeing all your chicken accents make me regret all the things we disposed of when we cleaned out my fathers farm buildings. I grew up on a farm. Many different animals-it was great. I too am ready for fall. O ur temps arenโt quite as high as yours, but 90+ is to high for me.
Michelle says
Thanks so much Claudia! ๐ I had the same thing happen when we cleaned out my grandfather’s old barn around 10 years ago – so many things that we threw out that I’d just love to have now! Now I know why he kept everything! ๐
