Hey guys! I hope you had a wonderful week!
I have an announcement about the link party. After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to change the link party name from Farmhouse Friday to Embrace Your Style.
Why have I decided to do this?
- I’ve discovered that I define farmhouse style in a much broader sense than most people. Most people see the word “farmhouse” and think modern farmhouse / Fixer Upper, whereas I define it to include that as well as any combination of rustic, shabby chic, vintage, French farmhouse, industrial, Victorian, nautical, boho – basically any style that is warm, cozy and inviting. I don’t want to get into a discussion about what defines farmhouse style as we’d all have different ideas about it, and that’s perfectly okay. The point is that I think the word “farmhouse” in “Farmhouse Friday” kept a lot of bloggers from linking up because their style wasn’t farmhouse in the strictest sense and thought their style wouldn’t fit in with the party theme.
- I believe Embrace Your Style describes our party regulars better, as they have all beautifully embraced their own personal style! One of the many things I love about this party is the eclectic mix of decor shared here. I’m hoping the name change will honor our party regulars as well as attract new bloggers to the party that also have a strong sense of personal style and don’t worry about “fitting into the box” décor-wise.
- Discovering the way I think of farmhouse style doesn’t fit into the most widely accepted definition of it made me think that I didn’t know what my style is, but then I realized I know exactly what my style is – it’s my style. My style can be defined as mainly farmhouse, but it also includes a mix of other styles, collections of things I love as well as things I’m passionate about. And I’m totally okay with that.
All this brought me to another realization: I’ve never had a “mission” for my blog beyond sharing DIY projects and décor inspiration, but I’ve always kinda wanted one? I mean, there is nothing wrong with sharing projects and decor being my mission in of itself. But I always felt that I should be focusing on something more specific when it came to décor, but I wasn’t sure what that something was.
Well, I think I may know now. I run a décor group on Facebook called DIY Farmhouse Style. Many of the group members that post asking for décor help are so unsure of themselves when it comes to décor that they don’t know where to start and end up completely relying on others to style their homes for them. Don’t get me wrong – we all get decorator’s block from time to time and getting input from others can give us the ideas and inspiration to make a decision. But at the end of the day, the way you style your home should be your decision and no one else beyond who you share your home with. A lot of people worry about what other people will think about their décor and end up decorating their homes in a way that they think will please others instead of themselves. I’ve been guilty of this myself when I decorate with the intention of putting the end result on the blog. I want to show people how to find and embrace their own personal style and learn how to not worry about what others might think. And since my blog mission is now helping others embrace their style, I think it’s only fitting that the link party be named along those lines as well.
So, what do you think? I appreciate any and all feedback! And to my party regulars, thank you so very much for sharing your creativity and love for décor over the past 3 years. (Yes, this party as been going for 3 years now – can you believe it? I can’t!)
At this point you might be wondering – is Farmhouse Friday gone for good? As a link party, probably, But I have some other ideas I’m kicking around to bring it back in another form, like a weekly roundup. I’m open to suggestions on this too! 😊

Link Party Rules:
The party rules are super simple! Link up your favorite farmhouse style DIY projects or indoor/outdoor decor inspiration. You don’t have to live in a farmhouse or have farmhouse style as one of the main themes of your blog – as long as the project or decor would work in a farmhouse style home, it will work here 🙂 No food or recipes, please.
I don’t require you to link back to this party, but if you do, I appreciate it! I also don’t require you to visit or comment on other blogger’s linkups, but it’s always a nice way to share the bloggy love! By linking up, you will get a chance to be featured here at next week’s party and across my social media. If you pin anything from the party, please pin it from the original source.
By linking up to this party, you permit me to share your posts and pictures via social media and as features, roundups, etc. with a link back to your post or a link back to this party on the week your post was featured.
Thanks so much for stopping by and and have a great weekend!

Michelle, I’m happy about your decision to expand the farmhouse theme of your awesome party. I have to admit there have been times when I haven’t linked up because I didn’t think my current posts qualified. I can so relate to your quandary about having a blog mission, I’ve been feeling the same about mine. Have a great Memorial Day long weekend!

Your definition of Farmhouse decorating matches mine exactly! I was worried my house would look like a hodge lodge of styles but you have inspired me to decorate with all the styles I like! Thank you.

Hi there, I’m pretty new here, but can totally relate to the mission idea. My blog is all over the place, a good reflection of me, but probably not the best for building a following…oh well. I too have a broad definition of “farmhouse”. Thank you for hosting the party, it’s fun to “meet” new people and see what others are doing! I linked up with a buffalo check dining room.
Michelle says
You’re very welcome Jennifer! 🙂 I believe that the best way to build a following is to not worry about building a following 🙂 I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but keep doing what you’re doing and your following will come. I checked out your blog and I love it! A lot of people are moving out of city these days to live a simpler life as your family did, so I’m sure as that continues to gain traction your blog will grow. Thanks so much for joining us and have a wonderful week!
