\"Shades<\/a> Hey all!<\/p>\n

Here’s a quick-and-easy pattern for a knitted afghan in shades of grey!<\/p>\n

Grey is the new brown, you know.<\/p>\n

This pattern is a nice lap throw size; approximately 3 1\/2  x 4 1\/2 feet. I say “approximately” because this afghan is very “stretchy” because of the loose stitch and the way the stitches are put together.<\/p>\n

\"Shades<\/a><\/p>\n

This is a perfect pattern for a beginner who wants to work up something awesome using the two basic knitting stitches (knit and purl).<\/p>\n

This is also the perfect pattern for someone who needs to work up something for a last-minute gift because said someone:<\/p>\n

a. found out the party they needed the gift for is this<\/em> weekend when they thought is was next<\/em> weekend;<\/p>\n

b. forgot they promised to make an afghan as the gift; or<\/p>\n

c. all of the above.<\/p>\n

And obviously said someone was:<\/p>\n

d. me.<\/p>\n

\"Shades<\/a><\/p>\n

What makes it so quick-and-easy, you ask?<\/p>\n

Two things:<\/p>\n

1. Using lots of yarn at once; and<\/p>\n

2. Using really big honkers for needles:<\/p>\n

\"Shades<\/a> When you use a ton of yarn all together at once and needles the size of broomsticks, you get a cool-looking afghan that looks like you sweated over it for weeks when in reality it only took a few hours.<\/p>\n

It’s win-win. <\/p>\n

\nMaterials:<\/strong><\/p>\n

4 skeins each of:<\/p>\n

Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Silver Grey where to buy<\/a>\"\"

\nRed Heart Soft in Light Grey Heather where to buy<\/a>\"\"<\/p>\n

2 skeins of:<\/p>\n

Read Heart Super Saver in Grey Heather where to buy<\/a>\"\"<\/p>\n

One pair US size 50 (25mm) circular knitting needles with a 47 inch (120cm) cable where to buy<\/a>\"\"<\/p>\n

 Note: You can probably get away with an 80cm cable for this pattern as long as you don’t decide to make it bigger- I just used the 120cm cable size because that’s what I had on hand.<\/p>\n

Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

 Entire pattern is worked up holding 4 strands of yarn together (one strand of each color).<\/p>\n

1. Cast on 42 stitches.<\/p>\n

2. Knit 3, purl 3 to the end of the row.<\/p>\n

3. Continue to knit 3, purl 3 until the afghan is 4 1\/2 feet long or desired length.<\/p>\n

4. Cast off, tie off and weave in ends.<\/p>\n

Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can make this afghan bigger or smaller by adjusting the amount of stitches and the length you work it up; just make sure you cast on in multiples of 6.<\/p>\n

You can use any mix of worsted-weight sized yarn in any color(s) you want and achieve similar results.
